Although this last year had many negatives because of the pandemic, I chose to look at the brighter side of things. I remember sitting outside on March 17th, 2020 after hearing that my University would not be returning back to campus for the remainder of the spring semester and just feeling lost. But I thought to myself “When is the next time I will have all this time to simply slow down a little in life?”, so I took advantage of the opportunity when it presented itself!
During this last year I have truly never felt more content and happier with myself than ever before! I am so used to living this fast-paced life of social activities, school, and just trying to figure out what next to do so I’m not just sitting there in my own thoughts. But sitting in these thoughts was exactly what I needed. It sounds weird to say but doing this was a step out of my comfort zone. I felt comfortable with just pushing things aside and hoping they would resolve themselves or getting busy with something else, that way I could forget about whatever was bothering me which was beyond toxic to do to myself.
How’d I break this habit some might ask? (even if you didn’t, I’m still going to tell you.) I stepped outside in nature for once. No, literally I just walked outside into my backyard!
Taking time each day to just be outside and breathe is the most rejuvenating thing you could do for yourself. It helps you clear your mind, be in tune with yourself, and bring you back down to a peaceful state of mind and body. However, without the pandemic going on I most likely would have never started doing this. But with everything closed there wasn’t much else to do than learn about myself, and ya know what? I genuinely love myself so much more.
Over this last year the idea of stepping out of my comfort zone has stuck in my head as a little reminder that I can do anything I set my mind to. We all can! Lately, I have been stepping out of my comfort zone by applying to jobs and internships that I would consider my dream positions in my career path! If I do get them that’s great, and if I don’t that is okay too! It’s all about just going for it, stepping out of that zone! Yes, that is easier said than done, but you never know until you try it! As Kourtney Kardashian once said in a screaming match with her family, “ My vibe right now is just living life.”
